Première œuvre que le jeune Beethoven jugea digne d’inscrire à son catalogue, la triade de l’opus 1 n’était pas sa première composition, loin s’en faut. Mais c’est à travers elle qu’il affirma son ambition et révéla son imagination foisonnante. Près de quinze ans la séparent du célèbre trio dit “des esprits”, chef-d’œuvre de la maturité beethovénienne. Les trois interprètes ont fait le choix judicieux d’associer à ces œuvres un remarquable trio de Hummel, l’un des principaux rivaux du maître de Bonn…

Although they were the earliest works that the young Beethoven thought worthy to feature in his catalogue, the three Trios op.1 were far from being his first compositions. But it was in them that he first asserted his ambitions and revealed his imaginative powers. Nearly fifteen years separate them from the famous ‘Ghost’ Trio, one of the composer’s mature masterpieces. Our three performers have judiciously coupled these works with a remarkable trio by Hummel, one of Beethoven’s principal rivals.
