Since Bach’s famous examples, the first of which begins tonight’s programme, many composers have added to the catalogue of pieces for solo cello. Jean-Guihen Queyras focuses on the genre, with a major work by Benjamin Britten (his final cello suite) alongside a 1955 work by Saygun.
